HOW DID ROME'S GOVERNMENT WORK?
Rome had 3- part government. The 1st group of the government enforce the Law, the 2nd group made the Law, and the 3rd group interpreted the Law.They had checks and balances so that neither groups could get strong. In Rome's republic the Consuls were were the to p government officials. It included 2 Patricians that was chose each year. They were in charge to lead the army. Another important officials were the Praetors. The Praetors job was to interpret the law and act like judges. The most important official is the Senate. The Senate were group of 300 patrician man. The Senate job was to give advice to the Consuls
WHAT WAS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PLEBEIANS AND PATRICIANS?
The Plebeians had less power than the Patricians. In 494 BCE the Plebs went on strike.Also they let thee city. They started a Republic of their own. In 471 BCE the Plebs were allowed to set up their own body of representatives. In 455 BCE the Plebs and the patricians were allowed to marry each other. A few Patricians families still held power.
Who was Cincinnatus?
Cincinnatus was a Roman farmer.About 460 BCE the Roman were facing a big problem. They needed a dictator, so they thought that Cincinnatus was the right man for the job. He left his farm to lead an army. After Cincinnatus done his duty he returned his farm. He did not want power he only wanted to do what was his duty.
What Were Roman Laws like?
The Roman law was pretty much like United States law. Rome first code of law was in 451 BCE called the 12 tables. The 12 tables were law that establish the principle that all free citizens were free and had to be treated equally. As the Rome expanded they figure out they needed more laws. They created the Law of Nation. It stated that free citizens had the right to be treated equally. As the Rome grew they needed new laws. They created the Law of Nation. It stated principles of justice that applied to all people everywhere. These laws include ideas that are still use today. For example a person is seen innocent until proven guilty. Rule of Law- applies to everyone equally and that all people should be treated the same way by the legal sythem The idea of Rome's rule pf law was still new a new idea. Some people did't obey the law.
What was carthage?
Carthage was in the Mediterranean area. They were a powerful enemy that Rome had to face. Carthage was found around 800 BCE by the Phoenicians. Carthage was a great trading empire. It traded with Northern Africa, and Southern Europe.
What happen in the 1st, 2nd,, and 3rd Punic Wars?
The 1st Punic War started out in 264 BCE. The Romans sent an army to Sicily to prevent t\a carthaginian to take over. The Romans could not defeat the Carthaginians without a navy. The war lasted up to 20 years. In 241 BCE the Romans finally defeat the carthaginians off the coast of Sicily. The Carthaginians were force to leave and had to pay a huge fine to the Romans.
The 2nd Punic War started out in 218 BCE. Carthage expanded its empire to southern Spain.Once the Romans found out they wasn't happy about it. The Romans were helping the people in Spain fight against the Carthage. So to punish the Roman the Carthaginians sent its greatest general. He name was Hannibal. Hannibal gathered and army of 46,000 men, horses, and 37 elephants. In 216 BCE the Romans had severe losses at the Battle of Cannae. In 202 BCE a general from Rome, named Scipio invaded Cathrage. Catharine had to give up spain and pay a large fine.

In some legends it says that the Romans even spread salt to no crops would grow. Carthage became a Roman Province. The Romans conquered many other parts. Fore example Macedonia, Greece, and province in Asia.
