Marcus Aurelius an emperor of Rome died after his son choke him to death. Marcus son Commodus was cruel and wasted money. Commodus was known not to rule Rome as he was suppose to. Instead of ruling Rome he spent his time fighting as a gladiator. The emperor's bodyguards, the Severans, ruled Rome. The Severans stayed in power but, they ignore the problems of Rome. One main problem that Rome was facing was crime and poverty. (Half of the Roman population were slaves. Also they were poor.)
what were rome's Political, social, economic, and military problems?
When the last severan died in 235 the Roman government became very weak. Army leaders fought each other for almost 50 years. There was around 22 different emperors in Rome. These 22 emperors did not helped the Roman empire to rise up again. Rome leaders had poor leadership. Many people didn't follow the rules. For example wealthy citizens stop paying taxes. Also many citizens even stopped going to school. As the government weakened the law and order broke down. As the economy weakened farmers stop growing crops and many people bought fewer goods. Many citizens of Rome became slaves. The government rapidly increase prices. They did this because they couldn't afford to pay and defend territories. One way to have more money the government put less gold in Rome's coins. The government also needed to pay the officials and soldiers. Invaders grew into Rome. The government could no longer pay Romans as soliders.

In 284 a general Diocletian became emperor. To save Rome from falling Diocletian divided the empire to 4 parts. Officials were named to rule these areas. He also did something for the Roman economy. He made a new rule that workers had their same job till they died. Diocletian's reforms failed.In 305 Diocletian retired. A general, named Constantine became emperor in 312. Constantine issued several orders. For example one order that Constantine did was that all sons of workers had to follow their fathers' jobs. Constantine over the capital from Rome to a city from the East. He decided to chose the Greek city Byzantium. Constantine built a forum. The city became known as Constantinople. Diocletian and Constantinople failed to save the Roman Empire. After Constantine died in 337 fighting broke out again.Theodosius became the new emperor. Theodosius gain control and also ended fighting. Ruling the Roman empire became difficult. Theodosius decided to dive the empire after his death. In 395 the Roman Empire was dived into 2 separate empires. It was the Western Roman Empire and the Eastern Empire.
why was rome invaded?
Rome was invaded because it could no longer hold back Germanic tribes on its borders. Some of the Germanic tribes were Ostrogoths, Visigoths, Franks, Vandals, Angles, and Saxons. These tribes came from forests and the Northern Europe.Some of the Germanic tribes were fleeing the Huns. The Huns were warriors from Mongolia in Asia. The Visigoths made a deal with Rome. If Rome gave protection to the Visigoths then they promise to be loyal to them. Later on the Roman Empire forced the Visigoths to pay very high prices, enslaved the Visigoths, and even kidnapped them. The Visigoths got tired of the treatment they decided to rebelled against Rome.nIn 378 the Visigoths defeated Rome legions. In 410 Rome was to weak Visigoth leader Alaric captured Rome.It was the first time Rome had been conquered in over 800 years.

In the mids-400s Germanic leaders held a high post in Rome government. In 476 a Germanic general Odoacer took control of Rome. He controlled of Rome for almost 15 years. The Romulus Augustulus was the last emperor ever again in Rome.By 550 the Western Empire faded away. The Eastern Empire of Rome prospered. It became known as Byzantine Empire. The Byzantine Empire lasted for over 1,000 years.

Roman ideas and laws are still use today. Many English words come from the Romans. Today the alphabet expanded from 22 to26 letters. Also the Latin language shaped languages in Italy, France, Spain,Portugal, and Romania. The peace brought Roman rule to allowed Christianity to spread out. As Christianity began in Roman Empire the new religion blend with those of Chrsitianity.
